Union Public Schools is going to allow adjunct teachers to help fill open positions.

The Union School Board unanimously approved the new policy at its meeting Monday night.

The new policy allows people to teach, even if they cannot get an emergency certification, as long as they have experience in the subject.

"We have held off for many years on adding this," said Jay Loegering with Union Public Schools. "We’ve been avoiding this, but unfortunately, with the State Department of Education’s certifications, we are running into a situation where we have certified teachers who are not able to get certified in other areas due to state department rules.”

The board will approve any adjunct teachers who are hired.
