Jenks Public Schools Extends School Day By 15 Minutes

As students in Jenks prepare return to the classroom on Thursday, Jenks Public Schools says they will have to arrive 10 minutes earlier, and leave 5 minutes later.

Teachers and students are returning to the classroom Thursday morning in Jenks, according to Jenks Public Schools.

Faculty at Jenks West Elementary School said what parents need to know most for the new school year is a new start and end time for the school day.

JPS said every school day will start the day 10 minutes earlier, and finish 5 minutes later than it did for the 2023-24 academic year.

District officials said by having the school day be 15 minutes longer, the last day of classes will be about a week earlier, instead of after Memorial Day.

Despite the longer school day, other programs have remained unchanged.

The district said Jenks families who qualify for free and reduced price breakfast and lunch can apply on the Jenks Public Schools website, and while the cellphone policy hasn't changed for this school year, the district said it is committed to being more diligent in enforcing their rules regarding student cellphone use.

Thursday is the first day of school for kindergarten to 12th grade, but Pre-K will start school on Monday.
