The Mustangs are a week into camp and going through the grind before the season opener.
Old in some areas and young in others, Oologah has really started to come together. Head coach Sam Noble sees it.
“The big surprise is the amount of young kids that have stepped up.”
Coach Noble has praised the sophomore class for their hard work and even the freshmen who have not been afraid to make their voices heard.
“We are holding each other accountable,” says the coach. “That's what we wanted as coaches as a team is really good when they are player lead and not having to be coach led the entire time.”
Hard work has not been wasted for the Mustangs as they entire week two of practice. A scrimmage with Pryor should help in preparation.
“Clean up, polish, and find our guys that are going to help us out,” according to Noble. “That is what this week is about.”
Oologah has a deep receiving corp this season that will allow them to open up the offense this season, even with a new quarterback. Garrett Salt will be the new starter after spending last year at safety. Salt is a two-time runner-up in the state wrestling tournament and has shown consistency so far in practice.
“He never really was a vocal leader, but this year he has stepped out of his shell. Shows up every day and not afraid to ask questions.”
Oologah opens the season at Vinita.
