Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy revealed that this season, the Cowboys will feature QR codes on their helmets, linking to a fund that supports all student athletes. This is believed to be the first time a college football team has used QR codes in regular-season games to enhance players' earning potential.
Gundy described the initiative as a groundbreaking move to advance the program and boost NIL opportunities for the players. “This gives fans worldwide a chance to directly support Cowboy football,” he said.
The QR codes, displayed on 1.5-inch decals on the back of each helmet, will not be visible from the stands but will be highlighted in close-up shots during broadcasts and in social media posts. The codes will also appear on player bag tags, coasters in premium stadium areas, signage throughout Boone Pickens Stadium and the OSU football equipment truck.
The QR codes are part of the “Saddle Up Campaign” by Pokes With A Purpose, and links to the fund will be available on Oklahoma State football’s social media channels: @CowboyFB on X, @Cowboy_FB on Instagram, and @okstatefootball on Facebook.
Oklahoma State’s 2024 season kicks off against defending FCS champion South Dakota State at Boone Pickens Stadium on August 31.
