Claremore Football returns in 2024 after a run last season that saw them finish with 11 wins, the most since 2012.
As great as last year was for the Zebras, this season has a little more meaning for a community trying to move on from major damage caused by a tornado on May 26th. The impact football potentially has on the community is not lost on Coach Jarrett Hurt.
"Well, I think our community needs a big feel-good," according to the coach. "We've been through the tornado; that's an ongoing process. Most people are still cleaning up, there is still debris everywhere, and I think our community needs something to really feel good about."
The Zebras have not only the belief but the ability as well. The theme for the 2024 season is "We want more" due to what Claremore was able to accomplish in 2023. Success inspires not just the team going through it at the time but also future teams.
The Claremore offense has two returning starters, which means there is a lot of competition in practice for those open spots.
"We feel like we might not have the top-end talent like last year, but we feel like we have a lot more depth this year on our offensive side of the ball," according to Hurt.
Running back will be a position of strength with Tyson Grimett, Ty McKnight, and Xander Brito splitting carries. Brito returns after missing most of last season with an injury.
The Zebra defense has 5 starters back, with linebacker being a position of strength.
