Soldier's Wish surprised Broken Arrow Freshmen Academy's assistant principal Friday afternoon with some yard improvements.

Soldiers Wish has been helping veterans, active military members and their families for more than a decade. That includes Broken Arrow Assistant Principal Malinda Silva.

Silva served as a military police sergeant in the U.S. Army. On Friday, Soldier's Wish partnered with BA French Drains to fix water drainage issues in Silva's backyard. Silva says she is just grateful someone would think of her.

“I feel incredibly blessed and honored that someone recognized I had a need, even if it's my yard, to invest in me and my family. I'm very appreciative,” said Silva.

Soldier’s Wish says donations help, but they also need businesses to donate services, and for people to nominate those who need help.

“Cause veterans won't ask for help,” said Debra Wimpee, the executive director of Soldier’s Wish. “They're the last one that's going to ask. So. it really takes the community to see a need and report it.”

Businesses and individuals can click here to nominate a veteran or active military member, apply for assistance or make a donation.
