The Muskogee Police Department released more details about a shooting involving one of its officers on Monday evening.
The department confirmed on Tuesday that two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
According to MPD, a Muskogee officer made a traffic stop around 9:20 p.m. for a defective truck in the 1700 block of North York Street. The officer spoke with the driver and the three other occupants inside the truck.
After conducting a records check of the people inside the truck, the officer was told that one of the men, 23-year-old Jordan Pierce, had felony warrants out for his arrest. When a backup officer arrived, they approached the vehicle on the rear passenger's side to ask Pierce to get out of the truck.
The officer opened the truck door, and they say Pierce pointed a gun at the officers. Multiple shots were fired by the officer at the suspect, striking him at least one time. Pierce did not fire his weapon, according to the police department.
The other three people in the car were not hit by the gunfire, but one of them had a minor injury and was taken to a Muskogee hospital.
Pierce was transported to a Tulsa hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released to police custody. He was then booked into the Muskogee County Jail.
Pierce is charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon and a felony warrant for possession of CDS with intent.
The officers involved were not injured. Both officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave during the investigation. The Muskogee Police Department has not released the officers' names at this time.
