The Tulsa State Fair is in full swing, and so are all the sights, sounds, and prizes.
Andrew Wheeler is here with his Andrew Wheeler is here with his son, Elvis, and daughter, Birdie.
“This is our kids' first year to come to the fair, they're both 4 and 3 so it was really exciting for them to hear about all the fried candies and games to play. You know we had to warn them about the loud noises and people screaming with having fun. But they've just had a blast walking around and checking everything out,” Wheeler said.
If the midway starts to feel a bit overwhelming, the butterfly house inside the SageNet Center is a much calmer place to be.
“The butterflies will float around you. You can sit in here, you can have lunch. You can feed a butterfly and watch your kids play. It is absolutely the most peaceful place to be,” Designed for Discovery CEO Jachus Sundby said.
There are more than 1,000 butterflies in the space, and Sundby said families can even buy a caterpillar to take home.
“You can watch it turn into a butterfly right on your kitchen counter,” he said. “And when you release it, that butterfly is actually a migratory monarch that will fly all the way to Mexico over winter.”
Back on the midway, 9-year-old Harry Hattaway prefers to take a break with a slushy.
“Blue raspberry, I did grape, and then I did cherry,” he said.
Hattaway said the highlight of the day had him spinning in circles.
“I definitely would say that ride. It was, um, a lot. It was crazy,” Hattaway said pointing to one of the rides.
Whether you're looking for a thrilling ride or a quiet moment with nature, there’s a little bit of everything at the fair.
