The Department of Justice said it will open a review and evaluation into the Tulsa Race Massacre.
It's prompted by the Emmett Till law created by Congress that investigates deadly civil rights violations from before 1980.
The Justice Department said the Civil Rights Division Cold Case Unit will look at documents and witness accounts and then publish a report based on current and previous civil rights law.
It said that the report will not affect the City of Tulsa's review but it will include information from the city.
"This is a joyous occasion, a momentous day. An amazing opportunity for us to make sure what happened here in Tulsa is understood for what it was," said Damario Solomon-Simmons, Attorney.
