It's game day at the University of Tulsa as the football team takes on the Army in celebration of military appreciation day.
“I think it will be a good game day today,” said Staff Sergeant Daniel Gerlach.
It’s the first time the 2 teams have met since 2007, and the Army Golden Knights plan to make it memorable.
“Jumping in, skydiving, free fall straight into the game, it's gonna be a packed crowd,” said Sergeant First Class Zach Krietenstein.
As the parachute team loads the plane, they get suited up and amped up to make their 5,000-foot descent onto the football field with the game ball.
“I’m terrified … no, not at all, I’m excited, it’s fun,” said Krietenstein.
While the stands at Chapman Stadium fill under a clear blue sky, the Golden Knights soar above.
Through the jump, the men hope to connect people at the game to the Army.
“We are the ambassadors for the Army, is the way I like to think of it,” said Krietenstein.
And also use the opportunity to foster support for the military.
“My favorite thing about this is not just being able to tell my story, or our stories to the people down there, but to be able to represent the U.S. Army and the military service in general as well,” said Gerlach.
A bond forged through service and a brotherhood forged thousands of feet in the sky.
“I would trust these guys with my life any day of the week, in any jump,” said Gerlach.
