A local nonprofit is presenting a short documentary on how mobile showers are helping the homeless in Tulsa.
The documentary by the BeHeard Movement is called "Stories and Showers," and will be held at Circle Cinema in just a few weeks.
Founder Evan Dougoud started his organization in 2019. It's since grown and has a mobile trailer drop-in center for the homeless, featuring showers, laundry services, a barbershop, a clothing store, and case management.
Dougoud says he wanted to document the needs of the homeless community and the things important to them. He says he's excited to see the impact of highlighting mobile showers.
"We just hope people get from this documentary gratitude that they get to walk in a few steps in the shower you know to take a shower, and we are super grateful that we all can experience a shower," Dougoud said. "I hope we don’t undervalue the ability to access a shower. We all benefit from it and if we didn’t shower maybe our friend group would change, our job would not allow to come back to work."
The documentary is being shown at Circle Cinema on October 20.
Tickets are $15 and available HERE. The cost covers one shower and a load of laundry for someone experiencing homelessness.
