In any given year there are always the traditional options like ghosts, vampires, and witches but popular Halloween costume trends for 2024 reflect major pop culture moments and iconic characters.
Here are some of the top costume choices for 2024 both new and traditional, based on Google Searches for the past 90 days:
1) Dune Characters – With the release of Dune: Part Two this year, characters like Paul Atreides and Chani are expected to be popular, along with creative sandworm costumes.

2) Beetlejuice – The supernatural con-man stormed back into theaters in 2024 with the sequel to the classic film. This character’s iconic striped suit and wild green hair are expected to be a hit again this year. But it's not just the star of the film that's popular as other characters including Shrunken Head Bob, Delores, and Lydia Deetz are also on the rise.
3) Pennywise— The infamous clown from IT remains a classic horror choice, and searches for Pennywise costumes have surged. The Joker and Art from the Terrifier movie series could also prove to be popular clown costumes this year.
4) Taylor Swift's Eras – It should come as little surprise that the most popular pop star on the planet right now is inspiring fans to dress up in costumes that reflect her different musical phases, from her early country days to her edgy Reputation look. Taylor Swift’s Eras tour is sure to be a common theme across all age groups. Not to be left out, Swift's former opening act Sabrina Carpenter is now a star in her own right and trends suggest there will be several Carptenter-inspired looks this year.
5) Elphaba and Glinda from Wicked – With the upcoming Wicked movie adaptation, expect some green-skinned Elphabas and pink-clad Glindas casting spells this season. This is another option that may prove popular for various ages.
6) Barbie and Ken – The lasting impact of 2023's Barbie will keep this duo a favorite for a long time. Expect to see various Barbie looks, especially the iconic pink outfits. Where there's a Barbie, there is sure to be a Ken as well and the character has no shortage of costume options to choose from.
7) Raygun - This Australian breakdancer captured the imaginations and memes of the world with her unconventional style. The green and yellow tracksuit has been a high search term for months.
8) Red (from Descendants) - This character from Disney's Descendants: The Rise of Red is rising this year and will be especially popular among young girls.

But you can probably expect to see a few more Deadpools and Wolverines this year thanks to Marvel's massive hit. 6) Psychos – Every year, you see the classic horror movie villains of the 70's 80s, and 90s, such as Michael Myers, Jason, Freddy Krueger, and Ghostface (Scream). But recent years have also offered up some scary choices, like Pearl from the film of the same name starring Mia Goth, and Jigsaw from the Saw franchise. The Purge film franchise offers a level of versatility as the costume can be mostly made at home. It's been popular among teens over the last few years.
