A Tulsa detective testified at the murder trial of John Miles Friday.
Miles is charged with murdering his 11-year-old stepson, Orlando Hugger, Jr., although the boy’s remains have never been found.
The boy’s mother, Camille Lewis, is also charged in the death.
The detective told the jury about the efforts police made to search for Hugger’s remains.
Hugger had been missing for two years and no one knew it.
Police say Lewis and Miles initially said he ran away, then said he was staying with a relative.
Lewis testified this week she helped Miles dispose of the boy’s remains after he was beaten to death, buried, dug up, burned, then put into the sewer system.
The detective testified investigators followed up on several tips saying the boy had been spotted, but they weren’t credible.
The detective described their search of the drainage system, but evidence of the boy’s remains has not been found.
Police have said this is one of the worst cases of abuse they’ve seen, since the boy and his sister were kept locked in closets for weeks on end with little to no showers or bathroom breaks, and very limited food.
They say it was after the girl went to live with as relative that news of the boy’s death came to light.
The couple also have three children of their own.
This case is expected to go to the jury sometime early next week.
News On 6 will report on the verdict when it is reached.
