A New Leaf at Christmas time is a lot like Santa's workshop. Everyone is working hard to make spirits bright. Not with toys, but festive holiday plants.
"We sell thousands and thousands of poinsettias to businesses and individuals across all of the county," said Shelley Nachtigall, Manager of Philanthropic Resources.
Like Santa, they deliver right to your home. It is a job A New Leaf client Kelsey O'Halloran looks forward to every year.
"I just love the Christmas season," she said.
There are four sizes and five different colors of poinsettias. Nachtigall said, "We have the typical red that everyone loves. We have some that are variegated, some that are white, and some that are kind of a mix of all that."
However, their variety is not necessarily why people buy from A New Leaf. The real joy is in the greetings.
"It makes me feel happy; it makes me want to cry," O'Halloran continued to say as she held back tears. "It just brings joy to my heart."
That is because through these poinsettias, people see beyond her disability.
"It is joy whenever they deliver something because they are happy to be doing their job, they are proud of what they do, and they enjoy making somebody's day brighter," Nachtigall added.
Every poinsettia purchase from A New Leaf helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live independently. They will be doing deliveries through Dec. 23.
