With its 50th anniversary just around the corner, Eskimo Joe’s got a head start on the celebration this week — not in Stillwater, but at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
Monday, April 21, was officially declared 'Eskimo Joe Day' in Oklahoma, with the restaurant’s iconic mascots Joe and Buffy making the trip to the Capitol rotunda to mark the occasion.
Eskimo Joe’s received formal recognition from both the Oklahoma Senate and House of Representatives, including an official citation celebrating the eatery’s five decades of business, community involvement, and contributions to Oklahoma tourism and the local economy.
Joe and Buffy greeted lawmakers and guests, handed out signature souvenir cups, and shared smiles throughout the Capitol. The celebration included meetings with Sen. Chuck Hall, Sen. Randy Grellner, and Rep. Trish Ranson — all of whom helped sponsor the official recognition.
Additional support came from Rep. Ty Burns and Rep. Molly Jenkins.
'We were very humbled to be invited for ‘Eskimo Joe Day’ at the Capitol in honor of our 50th Anniversary,' the restaurant posted on social media. 'What a really fun day!'
Eskimo Joe’s first opened its doors in Stillwater on July 21, 1975. Since then, it has become more than just a burger joint — it's a cultural staple for OSU students, alumni and tourists alike.
