T-Town TNR is a Tulsa-based nonprofit dedicated to reducing the population of unowned outdoor cats through a method known as Trap-Neuter-Return. The organization opened in 2015 and remains entirely volunteer-run.
Trap-Neuter-Return, commonly abbreviated as TNR, involves humanely trapping unowned cats, spaying or neutering them, vaccinating, ear-tipping for identification, and returning them to their original outdoor locations.
This internationally recognized method is used to stabilize and reduce the community cat population over time.
Since its founding, T-Town TNR has helped more than 13,500 cats through its program. The results have been significant, including a 70% decrease in cat intake at Tulsa Animal Services.
This has allowed the city shelter to stop euthanizing cats due to space limitations, further demonstrating the effectiveness of the TNR model.
The organization handles an average of 45 new help requests per month and relies heavily on community involvement.
While the program is free to the public, each cat costs about $100 to process. T-Town TNR welcomes volunteers and donations to help continue its work.
In addition to promoting spaying and neutering of pets, the group encourages community support through fundraising events and awareness campaigns.
Kitten Fest is a dance and comedy benefit hosted by Latch Fest in collaboration with Queerlandia and Tulsa Comedians. The event aims to raise funds for T-Town TNR and will feature performances by Evan Hughes, Laura Cook, DJ Katnip, DJ Kylie, and others. The event is 18+.
