Okmulgee man sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for killing cousin

An Okmulgee man was sentenced to over 20 years for fatally shooting his cousin in 2023. Brett Pigeon pleaded guilty and will serve this time without the possibility of parole

A 45-year-old Okmulgee man has been sentenced to more than 20 years in federal prison for fatally shooting his cousin in November 2023.

According to court documents, on Nov. 27, 2023, officers responding to a report of gunfire found 31-year-old Jonathon Pigeon lying dead in the street in front of his mother’s home in Okmulgee. He had suffered gunshot wounds to the back, head, and hip.

Brett Pigeon was later identified as a suspect and admitted to shooting the victim multiple times with a 12-gauge shotgun. He pleaded guilty to the charges on Jan. 6, 2025.

Pigeon was sentenced to 126 months for voluntary manslaughter in Indian Country and 120 months for using, carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. The terms will be served consecutively, totaling 246 months, in prison without the possibility of parole.
