Tulsa police are investigating a deadly crash that occurred on Thursday on the LL Tisdale Expressway near Apache.
Today, Tulsa police are investigating a tragic crash on the LL Tisdale Expressway near Apache. Officers report that a driver collided with a City of Tulsa utility truck that was engaged in pothole repairs.
Tulsa Police confirmed that a woman in her 60s lost her life in the accident. According to Tulsa Police, she was driving a small SUV when she crashed into the back of the city utility truck.
The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. when police received calls about the deadly crash. Authorities stated that the woman was traveling northbound on the Tisdale Expressway when the collision took place. The crash occurred just north of Apache, where two city utility trucks were conducting maintenance on the highway. One truck was parked, while the other was believed to be moving slowly. The SUV struck the rear of the parked truck, but fortunately, no injuries were reported among those in the city vehicles.
Captain Andrew Mackenzie said that one individual was transported to the hospital for precautionary measures.
Captain Mackenzie said that this area does not typically experience a high number of crashes. While the investigation is ongoing, he believes this incident was an unfortunate accident. "When it rains, sometimes they'll increase a little bit, but this isn't like a hot spot for crashes," Mackenzie said.
The City of Tulsa can confirm one of our pothole crews was filling potholes on the L.L. Tisdale Parkway this afternoon when their parked vehicle was struck from behind. The Tulsa Police Department is investigating. The City of Tulsa is keeping in contact with our employees; and is saddened by the news and thinking of everyone impacted during this difficult time.
Captain Mackenzie described the crash as tragic and stressed the importance of driver awareness, especially near roadwork crews. "When you're driving on the highway, be super aware of your surroundings and pay attention in front of you," Mackenzie said.
Some witnesses mentioned that the utility trucks were difficult to see on the highway until motorists were quite close to them.
As the investigation continues, police have not yet released the name of the deceased or the specific cause of the crash.
