Tulsa Public Schools announced on Thursday that former McLain and OU standout, Ebi Ere, has been named the new head boys basketball coach at his alma mater. The move is pending Board of Education approval.

Ere graduated from McLain in 1999 and returns to lead the Titan program. After graduating from McLain, Ere went to the University of Oklahoma and became a standout there. He helped lead the Sooners to the 2002 Final Four and was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. After graduating from OU, Ere had a 15-year professional career. He won multiple championships in professional leagues in Australia, Europe and the Americas. He also represented Nigeria in the 2006 FIBA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games. He retired in 2018, and has been focused on youth development, coaching and community involvement.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Ere home to McLain High School,” said Dr. Rob Kaiser, Principal of McLain High School. “His experience as a world-class athlete and his passion for youth mentorship make him an exceptional leader for our basketball program and our school.”

Jamar Louie, McLain’s Athletic Director, added: “Coach Ere embodies what it means to be a student athlete at McLain High School. He’s competed at the highest levels, and now he’s coming back to invest in our students and community. We’re excited for the future of our program.”
