BLACKWELL, Okla. (AP) -- About four-thousand customers of a Houston-based energy company are without heat after their natural gas was shut off.

City officials in Blackwell and Tonkawa declared a state of emergency Tuesday.

In a statement, CenterPoint Energy attributed the shutdown to a pipeline supplier that experienced an operational problem that caused a disruption in the natural gas service.

The company estimated service would be restored to the majority of customers by noon Thursday.
