Local employers say Tulsa's job picture looks bright. And that's good news for the hundreds of young people gathered in downtown Tulsa looking for work today. It's the 18th annual mayor's job fair. The goal, to help young people land jobs.

News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims explains that the mayor's job fair isn't just for summer jobs anymore.

Mazzio's and Quik Trip are Mayor's Job Fair staples. For some they're the ideal summer job. But these days the Mayor's Job Fair is offering so much more than just part-time work.

Job fair organizer Penney Chandler: "there are more employers here that are hiring for full-time, permanent-type positions, career positions other than just summer jobs."

And the variety is attracting all kinds of applicants, from a 16-year-old high school student who's saving for a car.

Jordyn Roberts: "I really want to get something bigger. Subway's nice but its small, and I need something different and more hours and I just figured I'd come out and look at the different jobs and try to find something different."

To a 25-year-old looking for a career. Michelle Webb: "clerical I'd like to do office work or something like that."

The job fair featured 75 employers, educational institutions and several branches of the armed services. And organizers say its a good time to find work.

Penney Chandler: "Its looking really good. A lot of employers have a lot of jobs. And they say a lot of them that they're having a hard time getting them filled."

Quik Trips personnel manager Pete Roth: "we get great employees out of this deal. We are a strong supporter of it every year. Great qualified people come and have been with us for a long time actually."

And these job seekers say they're hopeful. Jordyn Roberts: "yes I'm hoping so. I'm keeping my fingers crossed." 20 year old Adrian Colbert: "but I seen a couple good things hopefully they'll give me a call back

With any luck, maybe few more folks will be added to Tulsa's workforce.
