OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Small police departments across Oklahoma are getting new crime-fighting computer kits thanks to a federal grant.

The kits include an Internet-ready computer, digital camera, photo printer and docking station and have been sent to 238 police departments statewide.

The computers will allow each department to instantly search prison records, crime scene photos mug shots and any other information compiled by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

The OSBI says the search engine allows an officer to do in a few seconds what once would have taken a full day.

The cost is about $3,800 per kit and is paid for with a $2.5-million grant form the Department of Homeland Security.
