OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City says it's the first in the state to use a special glue to stop bleeding in the brain.

A 19-year-old Edmond resident and a 36-year-old Oklahoma City man were the first patients to undergo the procedure in Oklahoma.

Doctor Tim Tytle says the lava-like substance called Onyx is used to treat abnormal tangles of blood vessels in the brain that can trigger massive bleeding. Doctors inject the substance into the brain, it flows and then hardens, cutting off the supply of bblood to the tangle.

Doctors say the condition previously required dangerous open-brain surgery.
