UNDATED (AP) _ Hurricane Rita strengthened rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico Today and could bring rain and gusty winds to Oklahoma by the weekend.

But high pressure will keep skies clear and temperatures warm for the next couple of days.

Forecasters say Rita could intensify into a Category 4 storm with winds of at least 131 miles per hour. The most likely destination by week's end was Texas, although Louisiana and northern Mexico were possibilities

Skies will become mostly cloudy on Saturday with a chance of rain in central and eastern Oklahoma. Western Oklahoma will be partly cloudy. Highs will be in the 80s with lows in the 60s and 70s.
