OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A stolen police officer's vehicle that had a loaded gun and a police badge inside was found at a local park.

Edmond police Deputy Chief Steve Thompson reported his sport utility vehicle stolen Sunday, with his loaded handgun, badge and a city of Edmond credit card inside, according to Oklahoma City police records.

An Oklahoma City police officer spotted the vehicle about 2:50 p.m. on Friday at the park, Capt. Jeffrey Becker said. Edmond police spokeswoman Glynda Chu said Thompson's gun was also recovered.

Police were called Sunday to Thompson's residence in reference to an auto theft, reports said. Thompson said he last saw his vehicle about 1 a.m. Sunday and that it was parked, unlocked with the keys in the ignition, in his garage with the door shut and secured, reports said.

There was no forced entrance into the garage and nothing else was taken, police said.

Chu said the department's policy prohibits the loss of an officer's weapon through negligence.

There will be an inquiry into the gun's disappearance to find if Thompson was negligible, Chu said.
