FORT SILL, Okla. (AP) -- Thousands of artifacts depicting the history of air defense artillery may soon be making their way to Fort Sill.

The curator of the US Army Air Defense Artillery and Fort Bliss Museums in Texas says items currently are being identified for transfer to Oklahoma.

The move is dependent upon Congress approving recommendations of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission.

The prospective move already has affected Fort Sill, where plans to build a $12-million field artillery museum have been put on hold until the BRAC process is final.

The new field artillery museum has been in the works for five years and was originally called The National Army Museum of the Southwest.

Now, Fort Sill officials are considering how to incorporate a separate museum centered around the history of air defense artillery.
