SALT LAKE CITY (AP) _ An Oklahoma City oil company is joining the rush to drill for oil in central Utah.

Cleary Petroleum is one of several companies now drilling in the mountainous region after a wildcat oil strike by Wolverine Gas and Oil Corporation of Michigan.

Cleary vice president Rick Frederick says the company is drilling on national forest land and owns leasing rights to about 20,000 acres. Frederick says the company began drilling in June but declined to say if it has found oil.

The region is about 65 miles long and 20 miles wide and geologists in Utah say it could hold more than 100-million barrels of oil, but it could take years to find all the oil because of the complicated geology in the region

Wolverine is expecting to find about 100,000 barrels of oil per month and believes their find isn't the biggest in the region.
