(Tulsa-AP) -- After turning around the Tulsa football program, coach Steve Kragthorpe is being rewarded with a contract extension.

Kragthorpe signed a one-year extension Friday to the five-year contract he signed when he came to Tulsa in December 2002.

The Golden Hurricane had the biggest single-season turnaround in the NCAA last season, going 8-and-5 and earning a bid to the Humanitarian Bowl.

It was the first winning season and first bowl game for Tulsa since 1991. Tulsa had won just one game in each of the previous two seasons.
