(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Former state Representative Mary Easley has officially replaced her son as District 18 senator.

Easley was sworn in Monday by Oklahoma Supreme Court Justice Marian Opala.

She was elected last week in a special election. Her son Kevin Easley resigned from the position to become the chief executive officer of the Grand River Dam Authority.

Mary Easley says she's already familiar with current bills and issues in the Legislature. She says she also knows the needs of northeastern Oklahoma.

Easley says she'll concentrate on education and economic growth.

Senate President Pro Tem Cal Hobson says Easley's 27 years as a teacher will give her insight into education years.
