McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- A Pittsburg County sheriff's deputy has been fired following his arrest on a misdemeanor complaint of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Brian Keith Helfenbein, 25, was in his own personal vehicle when he was arrested Saturday on State Highway 31 east of Krebs, said Pittsburg County Sheriff Jerome Snookie Amaranto.

Helfenbein has pleaded innocent to the DUI charge.

District Judge James Bland set the case for the June 15 misdemeanor disposition docket at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

Bland released Helfenbein on his own recognizance. The offense is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and a jail term of from 10 days to five years.
