An Owasso High School student is facing felony charges after police say he brought a handgun to school in a duffel bag.

18-year old Cory Childers was arrested Friday morning after school administrators confiscated the weapon. Childers told officials he used the gun for target practice and forgot it was in the bag.

Police say there's nothing to indicate Childers intended to harm anyone. Owasso's principal says this is the first such incident in school history and that one isolated occurrence doesn't warrant armed guards and metal detectors.

Tulsa Public Schools have both on all middle and high school campuses, although metal detectors aren't used daily.
