The mayor of one Cherokee County town has resigned to run for the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

Tahlequah Mayor Jerry Cook resigned Monday, exactly five years after he took office. Cook is running for the 4th District seat in the state House, being vacated by state Representative Jim Wilson.

City Council President Brian Rader will handle mayoral duties until a special election is held on July 27th to find a permanent replacement.
