(Fayetteville-AP) -- Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles testified Friday that the decision is his when it is time to fire a coach.

Broyles continued his testimony for a third day in the trial of a discrimination lawsuit filed by former basketball coach Nolan Richardson.

Broyles said that he looks to whether a coach is meeting expectations. He said former Razorback football coach Lou Holtz was losing his fan base and decided it was time for Holtz to go. Holtz resigned in 1983.

Under questioning from university attorney Phil Kaplan, Broyles said he handled Richardson's dismissal in 2002 as he had with other coaches.

Richardson claims he was fired because he is black and outspoken.

The trial in Little Rock before U-S District Judge William R- Wilson Junior began Wednesday. There is no jury, so Wilson will decide the case.
