Storm Brings Frozen Precipitation

A fast moving winter storm created a few slick spots across eastern Oklahoma Friday morning.  The storm blew through the Tulsa area rather fast early Friday.  A mix of snow, freezing rain and sleet fell across a large area.  The News On 6 received dozens of calls and e-mails from viewers from Owasso all the way south to McAlester with the same reports. 

The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety is reporting roads are slick in spots in Creek County but for the rest of the area roads are just wet. 

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has sand truck crews out taking care of slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses. 

Meanwhile, wintry preciptation continues to fall across a wide area of southern Oklahoma.  The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for nine counties in southern Oklahoma from about 2 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service says Atoka, Bryan, Carter, Choctaw, Jefferson, Johnston, Love, Marshall and Pushmataha counties could see a mixture of freezing rain and sleet before the storm exits the region and temperatures warm above freezing.

That could make driving hazardous and forecasters are urging caution.
