Some Tulsa students share in a celebration of Black History Month.

McLain High School was chosen to unveil the latest stamp in the Black History Series.  Charles Waddell Chesnutt was the first African-American fiction writer to earn national acclaim.

Students celebrated the new stamp and Black History Month with a special program including music and art.  The U.S. Postal Service says its Black History Series is more than just a collection of stamps; it's a celebration of life.

"We're just delighted to be promoting literacy and to make the students aware of the great contribution of Mr. Chestnut and his literary works after the civil war and the experience in black America.  We hope to bring that to the forefront," said Beth Fisk with the U.S. Postal Service.

The Post office began the Black History Commemorative Series in 1978 with a stamp honoring Harriet Tubman.
