Schools Benefit From Tribal Tags

The Cherokee Nation will donate almost $3 million to area schools.  The tribe is giving the money to nearly 100 districts in the tribe's 14-county jurisdictional area.  The cash comes from this year's sale of Cherokee Nation car tags.

School officials say the money really helps, especially in these tight times.

"This is a contribution to discretionary items that we wouldn't be able to do otherwise.  So it's things that above and beyond that we can normally do as a school district," said Locust Grove Superintendent David Cash.

Since 2002, the Nation's given over $13 million to Northeastern Oklahoma schools.
