High Water Closes Roads, Causes Accidents

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has closed state highway 16 in Wagoner County south of Wagoner and north of Okay because of high water.

Heavy rain caused serious problems for Green Country drivers on Tuesday. The Department of Public Safety continued to close roads throughout the morning and early afternoon due to high water.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation released a list of closed roads to the News On 6 at approximately 12:45p on Tuesday afternoon.

STATEWIDE HIGHWAY CLOSINGS
 
Wagoner County

  • SH-16 between Wagoner and Okay
  • SH-72 between S. 181st St. and 191st St.
  • SH-104 between SH-51B and the Arkansas River


Muskogee County

  • SH-72  north of Council Hill


Pittsburg County

  • SH-63 between Bache Rd. and Haileyville
  • SH-31 from Haywood to the industrial park west of McAlester


Haskell County

  • SH-9 east of Keota


Okmulgee County

  • US-62 multiple locations east of Morris
  • SH-16 near Beggs


Sequoyah County

  • SH-141 multiple locations between US-59 and US-64

The following road reports were filed earlier on Tuesday and may already be included the the above list:

In Wagoner County, State Highway 104 between State Highway 51-B and Haskell has been closed.  Also, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has closed state highway 16 in Wagoner County south of Wagoner and north of Okay because of high water.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol also tells the News On 6 Bakers road in Wagoner County from US Highway 69 west to Porter has been closed due to high water.

Highway 72 south of Coweta at 191st is also closed.

Problems are also reported in Muskogee County and Old Taft road between 84th and 94th because of high water.

In Tulsa, the City Street Maintenance Department had closed North Garnett between East Apache Street and East 36th Street North because of water over the roadway.  It was reopened to traffic late Tuesday afternoon.

The City of Tulsa also reported several accidents on Tuesday because of the heavy rain.  Slick roads caused two cars to lose control and smash into a guardrail on the Tisdell Expressway just before 8:00 Tuesday morning. A sport utility vehicle lost control and then a car following the S.U.V. tried to pass it and also lost control.  There were no reports of injuries.
