It's being called the largest new retail center in Tulsa since Woodland Hills Mall.  The multi-million dollar Tulsa Hills Shopping Center is starting to make waves in the economy.  The News On 6's Dan Bewley reports two of the center's anchor stores are already open.

Besides setting out the welcome mat, you'll also see plenty of now hiring signs.

One-and-a-half million square feet of retail space makes up Tulsa Hills Shopping Center. The newest destination for Tulsa shoppers is on the home-stretch to completion.

North Carolina based Belk Department Store is one of Tulsa Hills' pillar destinations.

"First of all the location is fantastic, 71st Street and Highway 75, a brand new shopping center. The customers are just dying for something out here," said Belk Store manager Jaime Valdez.

Valdez says that's because there's not much else in the area. For a long time, 71st Street has been a Mecca of shopping, but most of its east of the river. Belk chose Tulsa Hills for its third Green Country store because, Valdez says, the west is growing.

"The feedback that we've gotten from both the Jenks and Tulsa Chamber, this is the happening place in Tulsa right now. This is where the city is expanding," said Valdez.

Tulsa Hills is bringing more than just a few shopping choices to the area. It's also bringing jobs. With 30 stores in the $100 million shopping center, help wanted signs dot the landscape. From restaurants, to home and garden stores, to clothing shops, 2,600 jobs are expected to be filled.

"It seems like every month something else opens. We grand-opened with Target two weeks ago, then comes Lowe's and Best Buy. So it seems like every couple of months there's going to be something new open in this market. The more stores that open the busier it's going to get and people are going to stay on this side of town to shop," said Valdez.

Some of those other stores include a Best Buy, PetSmart and Payless Shoes.
