It was a dramatic scene Thursday morning in downtown Tulsa, where police say a teenager leaped through a plate-glass window and plunged seven stories to his death.  It happened at the Downtown Plaza hotel.

The News On 6's Steve Berg reports Tulsa police say it appears a group of three young men had gathered in one of the rooms at the Downtown Plaza, two juveniles, including the 17-year-old victim and a 19-year-old who police say appeared to have rented the room.

They believe the three had been using drugs.

"Marijuana, possibly LSD," said TPD Officer Leland Ashley.

Based on witness statements, police believe the victim managed to leap through a closed window with what appears to be heavy glass.  His body was found on a narrow overhang above the 2nd floor swimming pool area with glass debris nearby.

Police say apparently no one saw first-hand what the 17-year-old did, but one hotel visitor who was not in the group of three saw the victim about 20 seconds before he apparently jumped, and told police that he was acting strangely.

"We do have an independent witness that confirms. There's nothing that would say he was pushed or anything like that," said Officer Ashley.  "For whatever reason, y'know, was it a plan, a suicide, or was it something; the reaction from the drug prompted him to do what he did."

Police say the other two young men might face drug charges, but nothing in connection with the death.

"It's classified as a suicide, but we still have to investigate it," said Officer Ashley. "Our hearts go out to the family and everyone else involved in this.  It's a very tragic accident."
