Pinwheels Honor Child Abuse Victims

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Tulsa helped honor victims of child abuse on Wednesday. The group planted 1,561 "Pinwheels for Prevention" at Tulsa's Centennial Park. Each pinwheel represents a reported case of child abuse or neglect in Tulsa County last year.

Organizers of hope efforts like Wednesday's will convince lawmakers to earmark more money for child abuse funding so that more children can be protected.

"When people drive by the pinwheels we hope that first they will remember the children being abused and neglected. We hope that second, they will say, ‘I will be motivated to do something about that. This issue can not happen in my town,'" said Desiree Doherty with Parent Child Center of Tulsa.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
