Members of a Coweta family are counting their blessings after a close-call with a choking baby. The one-year-old's grandmother told News On 6 anchor Jennifer Loren, she was able to save the child's life because of a story she saw on The News On 6.

Lukas Poplin just celebrated his first birthday. But, a week ago his life was almost cut short as little Lukas choked on a coin.

"I didn't know what to do. I was trying to get it out at first and when I realized I couldn't do anything, I froze. I froze," said Kimberly Poplin, Lukas' mother.

Lukas' grandmother, Janice, heard Lukas choking and ran in to help. That's when she remembered a story she'd seen on The News On 6.

"So I went like this and I went like that. He was already bent over and different colors and nothing came out and I thought, ‘well I cannot give up.' So, I went like that and gave it one more last blow and out on the floor came a dime," said Janice Poplin, Lukas' grandmother.

She saved her grandson's life. But, they both credit that one segment on The News On 6.

"I thought, I'll never have to do that but, I'm going to watch it anyway," said Janice. "And then I thought if it does happen to me, am I going to be able to do it as good as they're doing it on TV?"

"I just tried it. And then I tried it over again and it worked," said Janice.

"That segment saved my son's life," said Kim.

Now every birthday, and every day for that matter, brings new meaning to this family.

"I think that every cry is a blessing from him," said Kim.
