One person is dead and several more are in a Tulsa hospital from a possible E. coli outbreak in Mayes County.

Doctors say all the patients had apparently eaten at a restaurant in Locust Grove.

Six in the Morning reporter Carina Sonn reports the identity of the patient who died over the weekend has not been released.  Also the name of the restaurant where the outbreak may have occurred has not been released.

In Tulsa, St Francis Hospital officials say 3 of the patients are children and all are listed in critical condition.

State Department of Health officials say at least 10 people were taken to a Tulsa hospital with symptoms that include bloody diarrhea, cramps, fever and nausea.

"This is usually caused by bacterial food poisoning, most common is E. coli but there are a number of other bacteria that can cause it.  It's usually from contaminated food," said Dr. William Banner, St Francis Hospital.

Health department officials are investigating.  Officials say the restaurant in question as well as several other locations in Locust Grove were inspected on Sunday.
