Diving For Pearls In Oklahoma

Imagine the excitement at finding a beautiful pearl inside an oyster.  The News On 6's Rick Wells reports it is possible to have the experience in Oklahoma.

In Jenks, between The Spotted Umbrella and the Laughing Wench is something new, The Pearl Diver.

"We wanted to bring Oceanside to Riverside," said Kristal Wheeler.

When Kristal Wheeler would go to the Oklahoma State Fair with her mom, they'd stop by the booth with the pearls inside the oysters.  That childhood memory stuck. And, it is the centerpiece in store she and her husband just opened.  There is a tank with the oysters and each has a pearl inside.

Those pearls can be turned into a piece of jewelry or you can take a string of pearls home.

"You can wear them with jeans or you can wear them to a wedding," said Kristal Wheeler.

Pearls are versatile and the store has more than just pearls.  The shop has all kinds of seaside stuff, lots of shells of every size.  There's shipwreck cove for the kids.  You can watch the coral reef on the flatscreen and listen to the surf while you shop.

The Pearl Diver is in downtown Jenks and is open Monday through Saturday.
