TULSA, OK -- Something unusual happened at The News On 6 earlier this week.  The station received a thank you call from a great-grandmother.  She was thanking us for the gifts her great-grandchildren received from the Salvation Army Angel Tree.

Dolores Crowder is raising all of her three great grandchildren herself. Matthew is the oldest he's 10.  Then, there is also Jeremy and Desiree.

One of the gifts the kids received this year was Legos.  Matthew says they are great.

"Like no matter what, if you lose a few pieces, it doesn't matter you'll still be able to build something," said Matthew.

Dolores got involved with the Salvation Army Angel Tree like everyone else.  She signed up hoping for one gift for each of the kids.  When she went to distribution day she was stunned, there was a big stocking full for each child.

"It's strange to have someone care for you and take the time and the energy and the resources to go out there and find something for people they don't know," said Dolores Crowder.

She said it was awesome.  There were clothes and a video game and Legos.  She says everything fit and it was wonderful.

"I came down the hallway and paper was everywhere and they were screaming.  I mean the dead was resurrected right then and there," said Dolores Crowder.

The kids have so little, yet Dolores told The News On 6 she feels so blessed to be here to help them.

"We're still looking for mentors.  I think we're gonna get some this time," said Dolores Crowder.

Their Angel Tree enhanced Christmas was so wonderful.  Dolores wanted to thank someone, so she called The News On 6, because we're involved, there's no way to really know who shops for whom.

"I said, you know what, they'll never know how grateful we are," said Dolores Crowder.

The News On 6 has helped sponsor the Salvation Army Angel Tree for at least the last 15 years.  This year Angel Tree contributors provided gifts for 15,000 children.
