TU Coaches Aid The Fight Against Cancer

TULSA, OK -- Basketball coaches at The University of Tulsa are set to raise money for the 2009 Coaches vs. Cancer campaign to benefit the American Cancer Society by hosting two Swish Night events.

The events will be Saturday, January 31 at 2:00 p.m. when the men take on Southern Methodist University and February 15 at 2:00 p.m. when the women take on Memphis.

"We're excited to be involved, once again, with the American Cancer Society and the Coaches vs. Cancer campaign," said TU head men's basketball coach, Doug Wojcik. "Cancer touches so many lives, and our Swish Night events provide a wonderful opportunity for college coaches, athletes, and fans to join together in the battle against an awful disease."

The evenings "Swish Shooter" will be Tony Heard, and a commemorative TU Slam Dunk on Cancer 16 oz. glass will be available with a three dollar donation.

Fans have an opportunity to support the Coaches vs. Cancer campaign during Swish Nights by making cash donations to the American Cancer Society. Funds raised at TU's Swish Night events will be matched by the Scott Carter Foundation, an organization founded in the memory of Scott Carter who passed away in 1993 at the age of 13 from bone cancer.

In addition to TU, Oral Roberts University, The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University host their own Coaches vs. Cancer fundraising campaigns. Proceeds from Coaches vs. Cancer programs across the state help the American Cancer Society fund groundbreaking cancer research, provide up-to-date cancer information and education, advocate for public health policies that benefit local communities, and provide services that improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
