The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is on the scene of a fatal plane crash in Okmulgee County.

Friday evening the Oklahoma Wing of Civil Air Patrol was searching for a missing aircraft that failed to arrive at Jones Riverside Airpark.

The Air Force Rescue Coordination Center said the red, black and white Cessna 172 single-engine aircraft took off from Fort Worth, Texas Friday afternoon.

Civil Air Patrol crews were searching for the plane and its pilot, Gene Thompson, who they said was the only person on board.

Information narrowed their search to Okmulgee County, where the plane was eventually found near 225 Road and Will Sampson Road outside the town of Preston.

Neither the tail number of the plane nor the pilot's name have been confirmed at this time.
