The district said 11 schools will close as part of Project Schoolhouse, which was approved May 2, 2011.  Those schools include:

  • Addams Elementary
  • Alcott Elementary
  • Barnard Elementary
  • Cherokee Elementary
  • Chouteau Elementary
  • Grimes Elementary
  • Roosevelt Elementary
  • Sandburg Elementary
  • Cleveland Middle School
  • Wilson Middle School
  • Fulton Teaching Academy

The plan also calls for recreating Will Rogers High School as a "College High School" and moving some school programs to new sites.

"It is no small task to close and reconfigure schools, reassign teachers and staff, and relocate resources like books, computers and supplies to new facilities," said Millard House, Associate Superintendent of Elementary and Middle Schools for TPS. "This will be a Herculean feat, but the administrative staff at TPS is engaged in the process and will do everything in our power to ensure that we are ready for all students in the fall."

The district said it is currently working on several aspects of implementation including allocating staff and budgets for the 2011-2012 school year, working to ensure student data is transferred smoothly to and from each school and relocating library media.
