Wednesday features the warmest day with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 70s along with gusty south winds from 15 to 25 mph.

Low level moisture will attempt to flow into a developing system late Wednesday evening but before this occurs, some locations near and northwest of the Tulsa metro will experience some elevated fire spread rates through midday to afternoon.

Outdoor burning is discouraged due to the environmental weather conditions Wednesday. We’ll track at least two systems for the next 7 days.

Is there a chance for severe storms this week in Oklahoma?

Our next system is developing to our west and will bring another storm system quickly across the area late Wednesday evening into pre-dawn Thursday with a slight mention for a few scattered storms.

The higher probability will remain slightly north and east of the metro, but we’ll continue to keep a probability in the forecast for spots along the OK-KS state line region into northwestern Arkansas and Missouri.

Surface instability will increase directly ahead of an area of low pressure that transits across far northern OK late Wednesday evening. A dry line will be located with this feature and will move west to east late Wednesday evening.

Rain Zone 2/20/2024

A pacific cold front arrives early Thursday morning as the main system quickly ejects into the Ozarks.

The probability for storm activity will remain low but any storm that does manage to develop could be strong to severe with quarter sized hail and damaging wind gusts the primary threat.

As the front moves away early Thursday, gusty northwest winds from 20 to 30 mph will be likely. No major cool-down is expected behind the boundary with afternoon highs ranging into the mid and upper 60s both Thursday and Friday.

What will the weather be like this weekend in Oklahoma?

Another warming trend is likely for the weekend with morning lows in the 40s and afternoon highs Saturday in the lower 70s and Sunday into the mid to upper 70s. Gusty south winds will return Sunday from 15 to 25 mph.

Weekend 2/20/2024

The pattern will bring a medium to long wave trough across the region early next week. This pattern represents the possibility for increasing thunder probabilities as early as Tuesday morning, including an early mention for a few strong to severe probabilities.

A one- or two-day cool-down is possible after the system passes our area by the middle of next week.
