Named for the Seminole word meaning "barking water," Wewoka was founded in 1866 and serves as the seat of Seminole County and capital of the Seminole Nation. The Seminole Nation Museum serves to preserve and chronical the rich history and traditions of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. Visitors can enjoy an educational and enjoyable guided tour through the artifacts, photographs, and interpretive exhibits that pay homage to this historical tribe.
