TULSA, OK -- This is National Infant Immunization Week, and while the world's attention has been on swine flu, local doctors remind us that we have a simple solution to many of the world's deadliest diseases.

"It's incredibly important to get all of your immunizations," said Dr. Don Zetik with Pediatric & Adolescent Care of Tulsa, "it's probably the most important preventative care that we provide on a regular basis to young children."

To assure the health of your child Dr. Zetik recommends completing the rounds of immunizations with your pediatrician or even your county health department.

"The health department offers a complete range of immunizations for children whose insurance doesn't cover it. That's an intensely useful thing not just for those families but for our community as a whole as we have to have all these children immunized to keep these vaccine-preventable illnesses under control," Dr. Zetik said.

Becky Grubb is the Manager of Immunization Services for the Tulsa Health Department and also believes in the need for all children to receive immunizations.  The Tulsa Health Department is hosting a Family Fun Fair this weekend to offer free immunizations.

"We try to have one big event for immunizations for children," Becky said, "we're offering this one on a Saturday to the community so that mom and dad both may be available to come out with the children.  It's offered in a Fun Fair type setting so that they can have fun at the event and then stop by and get an immunization.'

To have your child immunized visit your pediatrician, or attend the Family Fun Fair held by the Tulsa Health Department this weekend:

Saturday, May 2nd                                                                                                                  10am-2pm                                                                                                                       Christview Christian Church                                                                                                     2525 S. Garnett Road, Tulsa

To receive free immunizations a parent/legal guardian must be present and be sure to bring current immunization records for your children.
